Position Overview:

• Responsible for planning, executing, and managing breeding programs for assigned vegetable crops such as tomato, chili, okra, cucurbits, brassicas, and other priority crops.
• The role includes hybrid development, trait evaluation, field trial management, and maintaining breeding pipelines.
• The position requires close coordination with R&D units, Production, QC, Sales & Marketing to deliver competitive products tailored to market needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Breeding Program Management
• Develop and maintain breeding plans for vegetable crops.
• Conduct crossing programs, line development, and seed handling.
• Manage germplasm, parental lines, and breeding nurseries.
• Plan season-wise sowing, evaluation, and selection cycles.
• Field Trials & Evaluation
• Establish and monitor breeding trials, pre-commercial trials, and multi-location evaluations.
• Evaluate for yield, quality traits, biotic/abiotic stress tolerance, and market preferences.
• Analyse trial data to identify superior hybrids and breeding lines.
• Data Management & Documentation
• Maintain accurate field observations and analytical reports.
• Prepare breeding records, trait summaries, and advancement proposals.
• Coordination & Collaboration
• Coordinate with Production, QC, Sales & Marketing for alignment with breeding objectives.
• Work with pathology, entomology, and biotechnology teams for trait screening.
• Participate in product demonstrations and customer/field visits.

• Ensure compliance with seed movement, germplasm import/export norms, and biosafety standards.
• Support documentation related to PVP, IPR, and material transfer agreements.

Academic Qualification:

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Plant Breeding & Genetics, Vegetable Science, or related discipline.
• 2–8 years of relevant experience in vegetable crop breeding (for Jr./Mid-level roles).
• Strong knowledge of hybrid development, trait selection, and breeding methodologies.
• Experience in field trial management and data analysis; familiarity with molecular breeding tools is preferred.
